Probably the most well known free recording software. Features unlimited track recording, but lacks in power when it comes to mixing. Real time FX cannot be inserted, FX can only be applied by processing into the track's waveform.

Krystal

  • FX: VST. 2 + EQ per track plus 3 master channel FX

This program has a lot of potential, however it is limited in that it cannot apply FX directly to the waveform, and you cannot hear the same channel you are recording.

Reaper

  • FX: Very Extensive

A very powerful program with a supportive and knowledgable community. On the surface it appears plain and simple, but if you investigate the huge range of tutorials around, you begin to discover that this software is worthy a match with many of the more expensive options. With free download for evaluation, you should at least install it and take a look at the tutorials by pipeline audio.
