Frequency Response
Like speakers, microphones add some flavour to the sound by boosting or cutting certain frequencies.
This is due to resonance and resonant frequencies of the microphone - certain frequencies that
are naturally reinforced or suppressed by the acoustic properties of the microphone.
We often use equalizers to adjust the shape of the frequency response of a mic to get the sound
we like. This can be acheived by selecting a microphone that has a natural shape similar to the
sound we are after. In fact if you take a microphone with a flat frequency response graph and
run it through a graphic eq, set the eq so it looks like the graph below, you are imitating the
sound of the Studio Projects B3
condenser mic.
